DEAR DARK CLOUD : A Solo Exhibition by Meme
TAKSU KL, 16th April to 16th May
TAKSU KL is proud to present ‘Dear Dark Cloud’, a solo exhibition by Meme. The artist, Meme, will be present during the opening on 16 April (Thursday), so do come down and join us for the evening.
For Meme, there is a child in all of us, and for every child, a whole world inside his or her heart. His art functions on an emotional level, returning to the more primal tides within all of us, while his counterparts grapple with themes of society and politics. Embodying emotions, purity, and beauty, he strives to keep the innocence of childhood untainted by the dark clouds of looming adulthood. Fairytales, youth, beauty, and monsters, Meme idealises a world where children can believe and have hope, sadness, love, and cherish the movement of being alive. Can you see the dark clouds turning into rain, nourishing and bringing life to those living on Earth?
Khairul Azmir Shoib (b. 1975 in Taiping, Perak, Malaysia) is better known by his moniker Meme. Currently based in KL, Meme received his BA of Fine Arts from UiTM, Shah Alam, Malaysia in 2000, and MA (Fine Art and Technology) in 2004. He was the recipient of Juror’s Award from Young Contemporary, National Art Gallery KL in 2000; and 1st Prize in Life Drawing Competition from National Art Gallery KL in 2005. Apart from lecturing in universities in Malaysia, Meme had participated in various group exhibitions in institutions and galleries in Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia.
