TAKSU Singapore is pleased to present ‘Swimmer’, a solo exhibition by Malaysian artist Seah Zelin. The opening reception is on 13th October, Thursday, from 7.00 to 10.00 PM.
It’s been a busy year for Seah Zelin. Fresh off Hit the Ground and Blossom, a solo exhibition in Kuala Lumpur 2015, the artist resurfaces in Singapore with Swimmer, a show where 9 aluminium and brass pieces mingle with Peranakan tiles, and a patriotic piano plays a single tune.
Swimmer is “about the attitude,” says the artist, hinting at a swimmer’s ability to stay afloat, master different strokes, and – on his part, certainly – to move against the current. Summed up, it’s a body of work that encapsulates Zelin, and it’s defined by his strong statements on form, identity, and remedy for homogeneity.
Born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, born in 1980 who holds a DiPloma in Illustration from The One Academy, Kuala Lumpur followed by B.A. (Hons) in Fine Art from University of Central England had done Solo Exhibitions; Hit The Ground and Blossom by TAKSU (KL), Capturing Contemporary, ART Stage Project Booth by TAKSU (SG), To Whom It May Concern: Being by HOM Art Trans (KL), 50/50, A Two Man Exhibition by TAKSU (KL) and participated in a numerous group exhibition and residences, among which are: Perahu Art Connection (JOG), Project Space Pilipinas, Manila, Open Society Foundation, Yangon, Local’s Only, TAKSU (KL), Interface, TAKSU (SG), The Young Guns, Chan Hampe Gallery (SG), Prudential Eye Zone, Saatchi Gallery (LDN).
