Fractal
A Solo Exhibition by Fazrin Abd Rahman
TAKSU Kuala Lumpur previews ‘Fractal’, Fazrin Abd Rahman’s fourth solo exhibition.
Born in 1989 in Johor, Malaysia, Fazrin Abd Rahman is a contemporary artist with a Fine Arts degree in sculpture from UiTM Shah Alam. Although his works resemble paintings at first glance, using aluminium as his primary material proves his sculptural practice. Interlacing aluminium strips throughout his artistic journey, Fazrin has now weaved his fourth solo exhibition, ‘Fractal’, where the aesthetic visual experience is heightened by a more elaborate degree of woven design.
This series of artworks couldn’t have had a better name. Fractal, which defines the never-ending, complex repeating pattern of a nonuniform shape found in nature and geometry, can be construed as an ‘orderly chaos’. In Fazrin’s works, the ‘order’ is seen from the systematic and careful weaving of aluminium strips, whereas the ‘chaos’ is seen from the seemingly glitched, stencilled images layered atop the strips. Combined with a pleasing colour palette, Fazrin harmoniously wove sequence and disorder into a unique ocular impression, giving ‘Fractal’ a visual persona in the artistic world.
Fractal as an exhibition celebrates Fazrin Abd Rahman’s consistency and meticulousness throughout his contemporary practice and journey thus far. As such, allow this exhibition to weave an intricate yet everlasting impression as you behold it.
