Dani’s work is an emotional memoir which brings physical form to internal images constructed by the traditional fabric Songket. He takes a meticulous approach to aesthetics, incorporating folded structures and motives from the fabric to form a narrative. His style encompasses elements of still life and a contrast between light and shadows to convey lightness through its folds.
His artwork revolves around Malaysia’s cultural heritage merging with the artist’s past memories. Culture is what keeps him grounded, true to himself and his past, revealing who he is as an artist. His artworks focus on fabrics and textiles, highlighting the movement of the fabric.
Based in Kuala Lumpur, Dani Omar holds a Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from UiTM Shah Alam.
