Khairi Shamsudin
b. 1988, Malaysia
Khairi was born in Penang, Malaysia, and graduated from UiTM Malaysia with an MFA in Fine Art & Technology, and a BFA in Painting. Being an admirer of mother nature, Khairi loves spending time outdoors and is heavily inspired by nature, landscapes, and surroundings in his everyday life.
Experimenting with different techniques and textures, Khairi layers industrial materials and paints such as resin, cement, and plaster, creating landscapes of depth and vastness for viewers to get lost in. Combining monochrome colours with pastel colours, abstract forms, and textures, Khari sees his art as an extension of his spirituality, with every form being a manifestation of his deep-rooted spirituality and emotion experienced in nature.
Khairi has been a recipient of many prestigious awards including, Bakat Muda Sezaman in 2021, and the French Malaysia Young Artist Award in 2015 from the National Art Gallery (KL). His career has led him to be part of Curatorial Projects’, “Asia & The Guggenheim”, led by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in 2014, and “Art in Context” at the Queensland Art Gallery Australia. His longest mural project can be seen in Putrajaya, Malaysia. He has been exhibited regionally and internationally including places such as Singapore, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, and Australia.
