Nazhan Fikri
b. 1997, Malaysia
Nazhan Fikri is an emerging young artist with a focus on abstract art inspired by nature. With a BA in Fine Arts from UiTM Malaysia, Nazhan explores abstraction and figuration themes based on nature as a way to reconnect with his memories of his family’s life working as a rubber taper.
With exploration into monochromatic colour and texture, Nazhan draws inspiration from the textures we find in the natural world. Intrigued by the beauty of textures, lines, forms, gestures, and colours of the world, his work takes its structure from a rudimentary visual gesture – a scrawl, a mark, a scratch. Through his process, the artist plays with swiftness and imperfection in the work and exposes his process of discovery through mark-making. The physical and emotional process of creation renders a delicate balance between body, memory, and psychology. The final result here is an expression of the artist’s own self-reflection and rumination on his perspective of the world
As a young artist, Nazhan has joined numerous art exhibitions across Malaysia and Singapore. Most recently he had his 2024 solo exhibition, ‘Alchemy 2.0’ in Kuala Lumpur, and TEROKA in 2021 at TAKSU Kuala Lumpur. He has won several art awards and was recently awarded a Vice Chancellor’s Award for his BA in Fine Arts degree. Popular among private and public collectors, Nazhan’s artworks can also be seen in ELSE Retreats Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
