The works of Joanne Pang explores the concepts of memory in relation to time and place. Her paintings capture the states between forgetting and remembering as she explores a dialogue between nature and force. She paints between alternating states of dryness and wetness, combining and working with the poetics and materiality of water, ink and acrylic to echo the fluidity of the mind. In this mix, spontaneous stains, soft sweeps and bold fragmented forms are spewed across the surface, conjuring moments between movements and pauses, open and close. The process also involves her working with 2 layers of painting, one stretched over another, alluding to the concept of past and present, body and shadow. Her painting stretches across time, evoking the changing dimensions of thought and being.
