Amirul Yazid

b. 1990, Malaysia

Muhammad Amirul bin Md Yazid was born in 1996, Kuantan, Pahang, Malaysia. He is a contemporary visual artist whose practice explores the relationship between material, memory, and the transformation of everyday objects into sculptural forms. Working primarily with industrial materials such as mild steel, aluminium, and plexiglass, his works blur the boundaries between drawing, sculpture, and installation while examining themes of nostalgia, learning, and the passage of time.
Referencing familiar objects such as paper boats, paper planes, and crumpled exercise book pages, Amirul reconstructs fragile forms using durable materials. His works evoke childhood memory and reflect on how knowledge and culture evolve across generations. His Crumple series, for instance, translates the textures of crumpled paper into translucent wall sculptures where folds, creases, and light symbolize the emotional and intellectual processes behind creativity.
