Azrul Azrai Mohyi

b. 1990, Malaysia

Azrul Azrai Mohyi (b. 1990, Terengganu) is a contemporary artist who graduated with a BFA from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2013. Working primarily with charcoal and acrylic, his practice explores and critiques pressing societal issues, inviting viewers into deeper dialogue through delicate forms and iconic imagery.

Azrul has exhibited extensively across Penang and Kuala Lumpur, including his recent showcase, Locals Only! 2026 at TAKSU KL. His achievements include being selected six times in Gempak Starz magazine’s drawing contests, the Malaysian Emerging Artist Award (2013) and Nandos Art Initiative 2017 finalist, the Silver Award (Established Artist Category) in the UOB Painting of the Year 2021, and placing in Art Against AIDS (2022, 2025). His work was featured in the 2023 Henry Butcher art auction.
