Azaikmal Rashid

b. 1987, Malaysia

Born in Kuala Kangsar, Perak, Azaikmal spent his childhood in Kuala Lumpur and Johor. Receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts at UiTM Malaysia, he is an artist who has evolved through the years.

With a current focus on abstract expressionism, objects in his art symbolize ambiguity, encouraging spontaneous exploration as he incorporates the elements of lines, objects, and forms in an unconventional, non-two-dimensional manner. Experimenting with lines as a fundamental element in his work, he incorporates straight lines for stability and order, and curved lines for movement and fluidity. The careful interplay of these lines, forms, and various shapes, contributes to the overall visual harmony and balance of his work. Exploring lines and form allows Azaikmal to convey emotions, tell stories, and create lively worlds for the viewers to ponder.

Actively joining art exhibitions since 2000, Azaikmal has done four solo exhibitions including DYMM Sultan Johore (2014, 2017), and Maybank Art Gallery (2018). Azaikmal is a Winner of the Malaysia Emerging Artist Awards (MEAA) 2022.
