Alchemy of Modern Colours
A Solo Exhibition by Christopherson Ho.
“What if a world without light or Colours”
It would feel like an emotionless and lifeless space. Sky will be no longer beautiful without that blue so as the Green Forest. the power of colour influences our mood and feelings. Without Light our world will be chaos. That’s why we have a huge burning sun that gives us joy and a moon that illuminate light from the sun. My painting is strongly connected with colours and light. When we put two of these elements together we bring life and joy.
~ Christopherson Ho
Christopherson Ho (b. 1988 Singapore) graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore (accredited by Goldsmiths, University of London) in 2017. In 2015, he was awarded the Winston Oh Travel Practice Award and was commissioned by Four Seasons Resort in Maldives in 2016.
Christopherson was formally trained as a sculptor. His art practice has extended to paintings, inspired by concepts of faith, hope, light, and darkness. Christopherson’s paintings explore the effects of light, in particular how light reflects against the texture of paint. This gives rise to the works abstract and textural marks that possess a life-like quality, conveying a sense of energy and strength in its creative process. As a finishing touch to the piece, the pigment was applied onto the polymer paste, activating the work and bringing it to life with its vibrance. In its harmony of lines, forms, and colour, enlightenment and imagination are brought forth through this work of art.
His early chapter in ceramics has laid a solid foundation to the artist’s oeuvre, and whilst the past five years have seen Christopherson transitioning from the territory of sculptural forms, this genesis highlights how the artist has always felt at home with the three-dimensional, and his love of the tactile and constructive nature of art is palpable in ‘Alchemy of Modern Colours’.
