Hamdan Shaarani
b. 1967, Malaysia
Born in Perak, Malaysia, Hamdan Shaarani is an abstract painter and previously lectured at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Perak. His works are deeply inspired by nature and has been creating art since the 1990s, developing a distinctive visual language that explores natural forms through abstraction. Nature has remained the central theme throughout his artistic practice.
He has exhibited extensively both locally and internationally, which includes Art Connoisseurship Collaboration Exhibition in Aceh, Indonesia (2020), 11th Asia Fiber Art Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur (2019), Landscape exhibition at HOM Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (2018), and Asia Contemporary Art Exhibition in Singapore (2017). He has also participated in significant biennales and group shows across Southeast Asia.
He has received several awards, such as the Honourable Mention at the Philip Morris Group of Companies ASEAN Art Award (1998) and First Prize at the Kenyir Eco-Fest Art Competition (1999). His works are held in prominent public and corporate collections, including the National Art Gallery of Malaysia, UiTM Shah Alam, Petronas Gallery, Bank Negara Malaysia, and the Malaysia Timber Council.
