Mark Nativo

b. 1989, Phillippines

Mark Nativo is an artist based in Iloilo, Philippines whose work challenges the conventional rules of perspective. Through his paintings, he suggests that the world can be perceived and represented through countless visual arrangements. Nativo often breaks apart the pictorial plane, transforming it into a layered and multifaceted space where elements associated with traditional painting genres such as portraiture, still life, and landscape.
While his compositions appear fragmented, they are guided by a strong internal logic. Beneath the deconstructed surfaces lies a carefully considered visual order that gradually reveals itself the longer one engages with the work.
Nativo first gained wider recognition after being selected as a regional winner and finalist in the prestigious Philippine Art Awards. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of San Agustin.
