Syahmi Jamaluddin

With a diploma and bachelor’s degree in fine art from UiTM Malaysia, Syahmi Jamaluddin aspires to create work that freezes events that happen across time. Syahmi has established an artist community in Seksyen U12 Shah Alam, while also working as a full-time artist.
Syahmi often works with image transfer, silkscreen printing, oil paint, and industrial paint. Utilising techniques of repetition, his layering process creates spaces to align with the narrative. With colours chosen based on the mood, his artworks occasionally touch on social issues, political issues, or a reflection of the society he lives in. As an artist, he makes an effort to pay close attention to character, body language, mood, and scenery to build suspense and drama. Even though Syahmi’s artwork frequently addresses political and social issues, he also tries to convey the message in a tasteful, morally sound manner that aligns with the social and cultural practices of Malay and Muslim people.
Participating in group exhibitions across Malaysia and Singapore, Syahmi has held two solo exhibitions to date. He has also participated in the Doubletree Studio Residency, where he further honed his craft. In regard to awards, he was named as one of the grand winners of the Malaysia Emerging Artist Award 2022 (MEAA), Grand Award, Galeri Petronas Director’s Award, Energy Future, Past and Present Competition, Petronas Gallery and Potential Breakout Artist, Energy Future, Past and Present Competition Petronas Gallery, Kuala Lumpur. Syahmi’s artwork are collected by both public and private collection includes Marriott Hotels KL.
