b. 1998, Malaysia
Syahmi Syazwin (Awin) is a talented, young artist with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from UiTM Malaysia with a major in painting. As a surrealist painter, Syazwin’s artistic horizons continually expand through extensive research and exploration. For her, art is the unbridled freedom to create, transcending limitations, and serving as a profound means of self-expression.
Syahmi’s paintings explore the struggles of locals in overcoming difficulties to live a beautiful life. The artist uses common objects that can be seen around us, such as vases and birds, to emphasise their vitality and presence in life. These paintings also highlight the importance of turning hardships into hope and reminds viewers to embrace their struggles and the challenges they face in everyday life.
Through her artistic journey so far, she has been actively engaged in exhibitions and art competitions across Malaysia. Most recently, she was selected and featured in TAKSU Kuala Lumpur’s annual, ‘Locals Only! 2024’ exhibition, with her works being met with enthusiastic response from private collectors. In 2021, Syazwin achieved a remarkable milestone by cinching the prestigious Jury’s Pick Award at the ‘Karex Art Against Aids’ event.
